"Highlight" visible only for a tour
User should be able to create point or segment with text and photos but it will be visible only in context of a tour. This is very useful to describe the route, e.g. "here you should see a tree and turn right after it" or "be aware that there is avalanche risk here"
Additionally, the general map would look a lot cleaner if the highlights would only be visible for the specific tour their made in.
Komoot is using OpenStreetMap (OSM) data. I see a lot of highlights in my region that are actually duplicates of what was already shown on the map from Point of Interest in the OSM dataset. Like for example there are many restaurant at the top of mountains, which have been marked in OSM since long before Komoot was even thought of, but it is also added as a highlight for cycling and, sepately, for hiking. This is just wasting the overview on the map.
I think however for a specific planned tour that it may be valuable to highlight such spot that you will pass (closely enought to make a detour). But for the general map it is just making a mess. You can enable the layer with restaurant and see it.
At another place in this help site somebody actually requested the option to classify the highlights. That person probably had no clue that most of these PoIs are already in OSM and that such info should be contributed back to OSM (see http://help.komoot.de/forums/213895-ideas/suggestions/18819544-add-highlights-categories).
It would be great if this would be available when planning a tour and not only after having finished it.
Making it possible to plan a multiday hike:
- Create a point to mark drink water sources.
- Create a point to mark suitable places to pitch your tent.
- Create a point for a supermarket/restaurant as a restock possibility. Have an off-route segment to this point to navigate in case you need to navigate off your tour.
This can be a workaround for the other critical missing feature below, e.g. "Here do not follow Komoot, turn left right after the end of forest on a nice single track not on the map!"
Later this can be used by komoot users to create beautiful travel diary about their tours - including text for specific point\segment, photos, location, time/duration to get there, etc.
I can think of another option: what if tour comments can be not only a text but a text with a point or a segment attached to the text
Something like "notes", "warnings", etc - for a point or a segment
This will enable people to create some kind of a travel history, e.g. here we've seen an animal steps; we have met a shepherd who told us a story about ... Etc
